Nick Poole is Chief Executive Officer at Collections Trust, the UK professional association for people who work with collections in museums, archives and libraries. Nick is responsible for the leadership and direction of the Collections Trust, including supporting the development of standards in Collections Management, acting as a champion and advocate for open access to collections and supporting the development of cultural policy nationally and internationally.
Prior to joining the Collections Trust, Nick was a Policy Adviser at the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council, where he supported the rollout of Internet access in public libraries and provided expert advice to the New Opportunities Fund Digitisation Programme. Nick took degrees in Languages, Historical Linguistics and the History and Philosophy of Science and has worked as a professional portrait painter.
Nick became involved in Europeana through the Culture Grid, the UK national aggregator for museums and libraries, which is run by the Collections Trust. He joined the Europeana Network (formerly the Council of Content Providers and Aggregators) first as an officer before becoming Chair in 2009. Nick has led consortia for several EU-funded programmes focussed on Europeana, including Europeana Inside, Partage Plus and the new Ambrosia: Europeana Food and Drink project. His mission is to open up collections for discovery, enjoyment and re-use to as wide an audience as possible.
